Particulars: During his first (and public) rehearsal as an Oaf, Immerglück suggested this song [“Fearless” by Pink Floyd, 1971] and we gave it a whirl. Happily, it was recorded onto cassette with my little dictaphone. Later I incorporated a recording of “Gospel Plow” (traditional), arranged and conducted by Jester Hairston, from a Methodist youth music camp I attended with my sister. Therefore, Leslie Medford (age 14) and Virginia Medford (age 17) are singing in the choir!
lyrics
FEARLESS PLOW
You say the hill's too steep to climb,
Chiding.
You say you'd like to see me try,
Climbing.
You choose the day and I'll choose the time,
And I'll climb that hill in my own way...
And every day is the right day...
And as we float above the people and the clouds
You look down, hear the sound of the things we said today.
You wanna get to heaven let me tell ya how:
Just keep your hand on the gospel plow.
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on! Hold on!
You say the hill's too steep to climb,
Chiding.
Merciless, the magistrate turned 'round,
Frowning.
And who's the fool who wears the crown?
I'll climb that hill in my own way.
Every day is the right day.
As we float above the people and the clouds
You look down, hear the sound of the things we said today.
Mary had a golden chain,
Every link spelled my Jesus' name.
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on! Hold on!
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on.
Hold on! Hold on!
Keep your hand on the plow. Hold on! Hold on.
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
